Fridge and freezer care

Simple care routines for fridge freezers, plus the signs that an appliance needs attention.

Fridge and freezer care

A fridge freezer works best when air can move around it and the doors seal properly. Overfilling, blocked vents and damaged seals can lead to warm food, ice build-up or noisy running.

This guide helps you check the basics before reporting a fault.

Keep it steady: Do not overfill the appliance, keep vents clear, clean spills quickly, and report warm temperatures, broken seals or heavy ice build-up.

Set the temperature

Use the appliance control to keep food cold without freezing items in the fridge compartment. If the control uses numbers rather than temperatures, make small changes and allow time for the appliance to settle.

A simple fridge thermometer can help confirm whether the appliance is cooling properly.

Keep air moving

Leave space around vents inside the fridge and avoid packing shelves so tightly that air cannot circulate. Let hot food cool before putting it inside.

Check door seals for crumbs, spills or damage. Clean seals gently so the door can close fully.

Report problems

Report food spoiling early, heavy ice build-up, water pooling, damaged seals, unusual noises, a door that will not close, or a freezer that is thawing.

Include the appliance make and model if visible, the control setting, and when the issue started.
